My artwork takes a critical view of social, political & environmental issues. I like to play, sometimes to the limits of paradox, with metaphors, hyperbole and metonymy. I think of my pieces as unfinished inventories of fragments. Not just objects, digital prints, photocopies, sound and video installations, but people’s stories with fragments of my own story mixed in.
Often disguised as “regeneration”, renaissance”, revitalization” or renewal”, gentrification has become a tragedy, especially for the low income families, artist, renters, minorities, immigrants, and elderly population. My neighbors call gentrification as the recolonization of the upper-class. A-B-G for Gentrification is the documentation of this drastic reality, changes and evolution of the city. “I think of my pieces as unfinished inventories of fragments. Not just objects, digital prints, photos, sound and video, but people’s stories with fragments of my own story mixed in. Right now we are fighting against a developer who wants to turn our building in a million dollar properties…”
This is just a small selection of my digital images from different series.
